HD bricks can be correspondingly resistant masonry bricks for masonry that is not protected against water penetration (unprotected masonry), but also masonry bricks with a high gross dry bulk density for use in protected masonry. Frost-resistant HD bricks are given the prefix letter V (e.g. VMz or VHLz) as an abbreviation.
