Rafter roof

In a rafter roof, two opposing beams, the rafters, are connected to form a triangle. At the top of the roof, the ridge, the rafters are connected to form an immovable triangle. At the base, the rafters are attached to the ceiling slab with a wooden beam or threshold.

More about rafter roofs

The rafters support each other. The roof load is directed into the load-bearing walls. A rafter roof is a comparatively simple construction and therefore relatively inexpensive. In the roof space, no supports are necessary, as the rafters support each other. Insulation can be installed in the space between the rafters.

Rafter roofs have only a limited span, as a certain house width (max. 10m) cannot be exceeded. Dormers, skylights or loggias may not be possible in rafter roofs, as the rafters distribute the load over the walls and are important for the statics. Large openings cannot be cut easily or only with great effort.

Rafter

roofs are erected with an inclination of 30° to 60°

.

The width of the building on which the rafter roof is to be erected may not exceed 10 metres, in the case of wider houses, the safe statics of a rafter roof cannot be guaranteed and further static measures are necessary.
