Protective layers and protective layers serve to permanently protect the underlying seal against mechanical, thermal and chemical influences.
Protective layers consist of sheet-shaped materials such as bitumen sheets, building protection mats or protective membranes made of PVC. Suitable protective layers are, for example, at least 50 mm thick concrete C 8/10 or mortar, at least 25 mm thick mastic asphalt, drainage plates and rigid foam boards. In contrast to a protective layer, a protective layer can also have a load-distributing effect.
Precise specifications of suitable materials for protective layers and protective layers can be found in the parts of the DIN 18531, DIN 18532 and DIN 18533 standards applicable to the respective area of application.
