Wind resistance

Resistance to wind pressure and wind suction is defined in DIN EN 12210 and is an essential quality feature of windows and exterior doors. The degree of frame deflection at a certain test pressure is evaluated for classification into different categories. These are described with the following abbreviations:

Frame deflection: Class A (relative frontal deflection ≤1/150), B (≤1/200) and C (≤1/300)

Design pressure: Class 1 (400 Pa test pressure) to 5 (2,000 Pa test pressure)

Example: Wind resistance B2: This corresponds to a deflection of max. 1/200 at a test pressure of 800 Pa.

A clear decision-making aid for the selection of the right wind resistance is provided by Tables 2 and 3 of the "Guideline FE-05/2, Application Recommendations for Windows and Exterior Doors – Part 1" of ift-Rosenheim. There, a tabular classification must be made depending on the wind load zone, the installation height and the terrain category.
