Flank insulation

In some cases (usually when improving the thermal insulation of listed buildings), it is only possible to use interior insulation. However, thermal bridges can only be partially prevented here, as some components are still connected to the cold outer wall. In order to keep the thermal bridges as low as possible, flank insulation is used.

More about flank insulation

In the case of flank insulation, the insulation is extended inwards up to 50 cm along the wall or floor ceiling.

In some cases, flank insulation is also used, although the building is generally insulated on the outside. This is the case, for example, if there is an unheated attic space above the insulated building envelope.

If

there is insufficient flank protection, condensation and mould may form if the temperature between the inside and outside falls below 12.6°C.
