The designation of individual formats of coniferous timber is defined in DIN 4074-1.

• Squared timber: d ≥ 40mm, w ≤ 3 * d
• plank: d ≥ 40mm, w ≥ 3 * d
• board: d ≤ 40mm, b ≥ 80mm
• batten: d ≤ 40mm, w < 80mm
