digitalSTROM is a German-Swiss proprietary building automation system. Bus communication takes place via the 230V lines (Powerline) of conventional electrical cabling. Accordingly, it can be used in new buildings, but is also easy to retrofit, especially in existing buildings, because no new cables have to be laid. Actuators and sensor inputs consist of special modules that correspond to the shape of classic terminals and describe the corresponding functional group (light, shading, ...) by their color. However, there are only about 20 different modules in total that can be used for lighting and shading control. Switches and pushbuttons are used as usual from the standard series of conventional electrical equipment, to which terminals are connected in the switch boxes. These turn every standard switch into an intelligent component. DigitalSTROM therefore stands for a consistent implementation of decentralized actuator distribution, a central device is not integrated. The components are programmed exclusively using the specially developed and free software by trained personnel. digitalSTROM bus systems are primarily designed for home use ("smart home").
