KNX/ EIB

Further development of the EIB (European Installation Bus). The KNX building automation system is a standardised system that is used worldwide. The components of a large number of manufacturers can be combined with each other as desired. KNX is the only globally open standard to date, which has now been joined by over 300 companies, including almost all major manufacturers. KNX's specification was published and approved first as a European standard EN 50090, later as an international standard ISO/IEC 14543-3. Interoperability, i.e. manufacturer independence, is ensured by mandatory certification of all components. KNX is the most widely used system to date, and many electricians have the relevant knowledge and experience.

The data is communicated via an additional bus line (twisted pair) as standard, but can also be done via other means, e.g. via the 230V cables of conventional electrical wiring (Powerline). Communication channels via radio and network cabling are also possible. The components are programmed exclusively using the specially developed and fee-based software, which is installed and programmed by trained personnel. The programming and application of the software can only be learned by very ambitious laymen. For the KNX bus system, there are components for the implementation of both a central and a decentralised installation. Since the data is processed decentrally, a central control unit is possible but not absolutely necessary.
