The European standard DIN EN 13501-1 classifies building materials according to their fire behaviour and thus also according to their fulfilment of the corresponding building authority requirements. DIN EN 13501-1 replaces the former German standard DIN 4102-1. For products approved up to and including December 2001, classifications according to DIN 4102-1 are still permissible, but products approved after that date were/will only be classified according to DIN EN 13501-1. A direct assignment of the classes according to DIN EN 13501-1 to the former building material classes according to DIN 4102-1 is not possible due to different test criteria. According to DIN EN 13501-1, additional requirements are placed on building materials:
Smoke development s (smoke):
s1: Smoke development low
s2: Smoke development medium
s3: Smoke development strong or not tested
Burning droplets:
d0: No burning droplets/droplets within 10 Minutes
d1: no burning droplets/drops lasting more >than 10 seconds within 10 minutes
d2: does not meet the criteria of d0/ d1 or no performance has been detected
Example/ notation: A2-s1,d0 = non-flammable, low smoke development, no burning droplets/drops
Classifications according to DIN EN 13501-1 (for all building materials except floor coverings and pipe insulation):
