Elevator cage dimensions

The series of

standards for passenger lifts specify the minimum dimensions for the passenger car depending on the load capacity and thus the number of persons to be transported. In addition to the width and depth of the cabins, door widths, cabin heights, shaft dimensions and engine compartment dimensions are also specified.

According to DIN 15306, the driving car for a passenger elevator should be at least 0.90 m wide and 1.00 m deep. From an elevator width of 1.10 m, a barrier-free version is also possible. As a bed elevator, the cabin should be at least 1.20 m wide and 2.30 m deep. In the case of fire brigade lifts, the minimum size of the driving cabin for rescuing people on beds or stretchers is 1.10 m x 2.10 m.
