The Radiation Protection Act (StrlSchG), the main parts of which came into force on 31.12.2018, also regulate, among other things, measures to protect against radon in buildings with recreation rooms or workplaces. The Federal Government determines by ordinance in which areas the competent authority can assume that a reference value for the radon 222 activity concentration in the air averaged over the year is exceeded "in a considerable number of buildings with recreation rooms or workplaces". The reference value is 300 becquerels per m³.
When planning a new building, suitable measures must be taken in accordance with the StrlSchG to prevent or significantly impede the entry of radon from the subsoil. In certain cases , the moisture protection measures (already provided) may be sufficient for this:
