Tamped concrete

Rammed concrete is one of the unreinforced concretes. Therefore, it may only be used on vertical pressure. Each layer, which is about 15 to 25 cm high, is compacted by pressure surges.

More about rammed concrete Rammed

concrete construction developed from the process of rammed earth construction, which has been used to erect walls since the beginning of the 17th century. At the beginning of the 19th century, this method was borrowed for concrete construction. Rammed concrete was used in particular in hydraulic engineering and for large foundations. Today, tamped concrete is once again increasingly valued for its appearance. The individual layers can be clearly read in the finished wall.

Tamped concrete must be much drier than conventional concrete. In order to establish the adhesion of the next layer, the previous layer must be roughened, cleaned and moistened. The production of tamped concrete therefore takes much longer than that of conventional cast-in-place concrete. Long concreting times are to be expected.
