The redox series is the order of metals according to their oxidation aspirations. The ranking ranges from precious metals (e.g. gold, silver, copper) to base metals (e.g. lead, tin, iron, zinc, aluminium, magnesium, sodium). Metal ions of the metals that are higher up in the redox series act as oxidizing agents against all metals that are lower down. The consideration of the redox series is crucial for the application of different metal components on a building in order to avoid premature corrosion due to incorrect metal arrangement.
