Element wall (double wall)

The term element wall varies from region to region in Germany, it is also called double wall, triple wall or cavity wall. Prefabricated walls (double walls) are floor-to-ceiling semi-prefabricated elements made of two 4.5 to 7.5 cm thick reinforced concrete shells, which are connected to each other by a lattice girder. There is no need for formwork on the construction site, the reinforcement is installed at the factory. The space between them will be filled with in-situ concrete on the construction site, so that the overall cross-section is monolithic. When used above ground, the element wall can be produced on both sides in fair-faced concrete quality. However, since the surfaces are generally very smooth, plastering can generally be omitted. In the case of non-exposed concrete walls, only the joints of the element joints and, if necessary, the pores of the air pockets are filled and the surfaces are painted, for example, or wallpapered.
