Gravel fill as infiltration area

A gravel fill at the edge of facades primarily serves as a seepage surface for the rainwater that accumulates on the façade surface.

More about gravel fill as an infiltration area

Infiltration through larger gravel or gravel areas is known as surface infiltration. In this case, the rainwater produced is channelled over a large area over gravel areas (including lawns).

Compared to a sealed surface, surface infiltration has a positive effect on the microclimate, as it creates storage and evaporation possibilities.

Notes on planning

In order to better distribute the rainwater that accumulates, a layer of sand can be provided under the gravel layer.

In residential areas, surface infiltration is permit-free (unlike infiltration of trenches or discharge into above-ground waters!).
