Phenolic resin foam, also known as resol rigid foam, is a thermoset plastic and is one of the organic insulation materials made from synthetic raw materials. The foam boards have a closed cell structure with many gaps separated by extremely thin cell walls, in which the highly insulating propellant gas from the manufacturing process is stored, which gives them an excellent insulating effect. They are acid- and UV-resistant and resistant to pests, rot and mould. Resol rigid foam boards are very open to diffusion, which means that any moisture that may occur can dry out well. A separating layer should always be installed under metal coverings, as corrosion can occur due to the phenolic resin. Although the insulation boards are free of CFCs and HCFCs, an increased concentration of carbon monoxide occurs in the event of a fire. The dimensionally stable panels are available in thicknesses of 60 - 160 mm.
