OSB

OSB boards are a very versatile building material. In production, OSB boards require about a third of the glue compared to conventional chipboard. They have a particularly high stability and bending strength.

More about OSB

OSB (Oriented Strand Board) is a wood-based material. It is made of several layers. The layers are in turn glued from slender wood chips (Strands) with the help of a binder. The strands are aligned in the outer layers parallel to the slab length or width. They have a width ratio of 1:10. This ratio gives them an increased flexural strength property in the direction of dispersion of the top layers. The chips of the middle layers can be randomly aligned. In general, they are oriented at right angles to the strands of the outer layers.

Possible

applications for OSB boards:

Shell construction:

  • Roof planking Formwork
  • Façade timber

Roof conversion:

  • Vapour barrier

Construction timber:

  • Crates
  • Shelves
  • Cabinets

OSB boards can also be used outdoors and in wet rooms. However, it is then advisable to protect the board from the penetration of moisture by surface treatment.

Treatment options are:

  • wax
  • oil
  • varnish
  • glaze

It is recommended to sand the board before treatment or to use pre-sanded plates to ensure that the board is sufficiently absorbent and to avoid disturbing color differences in the surface.
