Escape door hood

Escape door hoods form an inhibition threshold before using a door by knocking off the escape door hood, which usually encloses the handle, there are also variants for covering the traction bolt. They are therefore used on doors that are part of pure escape and rescue routes and are not used for the regular use of the building. They are made of shatterproof transparent plastic, e.g. Makrolon, which must be removed so that the door fitting can be operated.

In the case of an emergency exit closure in accordance with DIN EN 179, they cannot be used in accordance with the approval, as the requirement of opening the door "with only a single operation" is then not guaranteed. In practice, however, they may still be used on escape doors, provided that there are no provisions of state law to the contrary, as DIN EN 179 is not an established technical building regulation with a legally binding character. In case of doubt, it is advisable to coordinate with the responsible building supervisory authority. Escape door hoods are not suitable for panic door locks according to DIN EN 1125.
