Insulation sheep's wool

Sheep's wool insulation material is well suited for wooden constructions, as it adapts to the way the wood works and can absorb up to a third of its own weight in moisture without significantly losing its insulating effect. Sheep's wool has very good thermal and sound insulation properties (λ = 0.036–0.045 W/mK). The water vapour diffusion resistance μ is 1. Studies show that sheep's wool can absorb and neutralise pollutants (such as formaldehyde) from the indoor air in addition to humidity due to its high keratin content. Sheep's wool is permeable to water vapour and resistant to moisture in the short term. Compared to other natural fibres, sheep's wool insulation material has a high flash point, it only ignites at 560 °C. Flame retardants are therefore only needed for very light products.

Delivery forms

Depending on the design, the rolls can be supplied in a wide variety of widths. Cutting is done with scissors or with special cutting equipment from the manufacturers. The fastening is usually done in several layers using a stapler, separating cords can provide additional safety against sinking.

Sheep's

wool is offered as insulating mat, insulating felt, clamping felt, window plait, impact sound insulation and darning wool. Wool cannot be used in areas with high static loads. Insulation mats or clamping felts are used for inter-rafter insulation and insulation in timber frame constructions, in interior and exterior walls as well as for exterior wall insulation. Other areas of application are curtain walls behind wooden cladding and between upholstered timbers in floor constructions. In addition, sheep's wool is available as impact sound insulation in the form of impact sound strips or mats and tamping material for joints (windows, door frames) and cavities (alternative to assembly foam).
