Cross connection

With a cross-circuit, an electrical equipment, e.g. a ceiling light, can be switched on and off at will from more than two switching points. For this purpose, two changeover switches and any number of cross switches are installed, whereby the changeover switches must be located at the beginning and end of the installation chain. This circuit is useful, for example, in corridors or basements, whereby the installation effort is very high with more than three switching points, since a cross-circuit requires a continuous pair of wires over all switches and thus a 5-wire cable must be laid. In this case, a pushbutton circuit is often used. Another disadvantage is that if a switch is defective, the entire circuit fails.
