Nominal dimensions, joint dimensions and coordination dimensions in accordance with DIN EN 14411

For ceramic tiles and slabs, the following dimensional definitions apply according to DIN EN 14411:

  • Factory dimension W: Dimensions of the visible surfaces (length, width) of the tile/slab
  • Joint dimension J: Joint width between two tiles/slabs
  • Coordination dimension C: The respective work dimension plus the required joint width

Accordingly, C = W + J

In tile planning, e.g. in a tile backsplash, no work or joint dimensions are usually specified, but only the coordination dimensions, i.e. the central axes of the joints, according to which the entire tile grid is then aligned.
