DIN 18195 distinguishes between different water stresses. These describe the conditions that prevail due to the presence of water in the surrounding soil of the construction project. The external waterproofing and perimeter insulation must be adapted to the respective load case. It must be checked whether the respective product is suitable for the applicable load case according to DIN 18195 and approved by the building authorities. Parts 4 and 6 of DIN 18195 distinguish between the following load cases:
In order to avoid the load case of "accumulating leachate", the excavation pit can be backfilled with material that can be easily permeated and a permanently functioning drainage system in accordance with DIN 4095 can be installed. Under these conditions, the load case can be reduced to "non-accumulating leachate", so that a larger selection of suitable perimeter insulation is available.
