In the double-shell outer wall, the wall barrier membrane can be laid either as an L-barrier or as a Z-barrier.
The designations "L-barrier" or "Z-barrier" are based on the shape that the geomembrane is given by the type of installation in the cross-section.
Z-barrier
In the Z-barrier, the upper end of the membrane is embedded horizontally in the backing wall shell and the lower end of the membrane in the facing wall shell, so that the Z-barrier serves as a cross-sectional seal in both the rear and facing wall shells.
L-barrier An L-barrier
is attached to the rear masonry, led down the wall and horizontally, if necessary with a slight slope outwards to the front of the support of the facing wall shell.
