Certificates

Environmental certificates are labels that measure and evaluate the degree of sustainability and environmental friendliness of a building. The best-known certificates include LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) and, in Germany, the DGNB certificates. These certificates evaluate buildings based on various criteria such as energy efficiency, water consumption, indoor air quality, material selection and waste management, and also take into account the choice of building products viaenvironmental product declarations.

DGNB certificates:

In Germany, one of the most commonly used methods is DGNB certification, which is awarded by the German Sustainable Building Council.  The DGNB certification process involves a comprehensive assessment of the planning, construction and operation of a building as well as its impact on the environment and the environment. The certificate is awarded in different categories such as "Gold", "Silver" and "Bronze".

DGNB certification is becoming increasingly important in Germany as more and more buildings seek recognition and promotion of their sustainability efforts. In addition, the DGNB certification process can help building owners and developers to identify potential for improvement and make informed decisions about sustainable building practices.

LEED and BREEAM certificates:

The Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) and Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) are two widely recognized methods for assessing the sustainability of buildings.

The main difference between BREEAM and LEED is the geographical focus and origin of the two systems. BREEAM was developed in the United Kingdom and is widely used in Europe, while LEED was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and is common in the United States and other countries. Both methods pursue similar goals in promoting sustainable building practices, but may have different evaluation criteria and weightings. Both certification procedures are also based on a points system, with buildings being certified at one of several levels.
