In timber construction, the threshold or sleeper timber forms a construction timber that acts as a basis and support for a wall or roof construction.
By fixing the threshold, the structure (wall + roof) is fixed to its base (wooden platform, reinforced concrete slab, etc.). On the one hand, it must be able to withstand forces, which can be very high, especially during storms, and on the other hand, it must prevent water from entering the wooden structure while avoiding any contact with the wood.
In
a gable roof construction, a threshold timber or threshold is a construction timber laid perpendicular to the rafters at the base point that accommodates the rafters.
