Counterflow ventilation systems have a heat exchanger in which the air is led past each other from opposite directions. In the cross-counterflow heat exchanger, plates made of aluminium or plastic are stacked on top of each other in many layers in such a way that supply and exhaust air flows alternately between the plates. This simple and cost-effective design is particularly common in residential ventilation units.
