Installation Zone

DIN 18015-3 contains specifications in which areas of the walls

  • inside buildings (= installation zones "Z", e.g. in solid walls, in lightweight walls, in pre-wall installations or in stud walls) and
  • outside buildings (= outdoor installation zones "AZ"; e.g. in solid walls, in lightweight walls, within an ETICS or a curtain wall)

electrical installations are to be laid. This makes it easier to find the cable guides for subsequent conversion and is intended to prevent cables from being damaged, e.g. by nails or screws.

1. Horizontal installation zones (ZW) in walls inside buildings

Each 30 cm wide:

  • upper installation zone (ZW-o): 15-45 cm below the ceiling cladding
  • lower installation zone (ZW-u): 15-45 cm above the floor
  • middle installation zone (ZW-m): 100-130 cm above the floor (only in kitchens, utility rooms or similar)

2. Vertical installation zones (ZS) in walls within buildings

20 cm wide and from the lower edge of the upper ceiling to the upper edge of the lower ceiling:

  • on doors (ZS-t): 10-30 cm next to the edges of the shell; for single-leaf doors on the lock side, for double-leaf doors on both sides
  • of the windows (ZS-f): 10-30 cm next to the edges of the shell; on both sides
  • of the wall corners (ZS-e): 10-30 cm next to the edges of the shell; on both sides

3. External horizontal installation zones (AZW) on the outside of external walls

Each

20 cm wide:

  • upper installation zone (AZW-o): 20-40 cm below the ceiling cladding of the inner ceiling of the respective floor
  • Lower installation zone (AZW-u): 20-40 cm above the floor of the respective floor

4. External vertical installation zones (AZS) on the outside of external walls

20 cm wide in each case and from the lower edge of the upper ceiling to the upper edge of the lower ceiling:

  • on doors (AZS-t): 10-30 cm next to the edges of the shell; for single-leaf doors on the lock side, for double-leaf doors on both sides
  • of the windows (AZS-f): 10-30 cm next to the edges of the shell; on both sides
  • of the wall edges (AZS-w): 50-70 cm next to the edges of the shell; on both sides
