In the case of exposed concrete produced with absorbent formwork, the surface structure of the material is visible in the finished concrete. In the case of rough boards, the grain of the wood in the façade can be seen. This is where it differs from exposed concrete, which was produced with non-absorbent formwork and therefore has a smooth surface.
A particularly good example is, for example, a board formwork with rough-sawn formwork boards, in which the finished concrete has the negative imprint of the formwork boards as a surface.
A distinction is made between rough-sawn, planed and brushed board formwork. Woods from pine, spruce and pine are used.
If there are differences in the wood, e.g. in quality, the different absorbency can result in colour gradients in the façade.
In the case of absorbent board formwork, it is recommended to use mineral oils with separating additives.
