Dry masonry wall

Dry masonry is characterized by the fact that the use of mortar is dispensed with. The stones used are only partially processed and relatively large-format. They are joined in such a way that the joint pattern is as narrow as possible. Small cavities are then filled with smaller stones to keep the gaps to a minimum.

Since it is not possible to guarantee strong adhesion of the stones to each other, dry masonry is usually not designed as a supporting structure for heavy loads. This limits the area of application to retaining walls and subordinate small buildings.

To guarantee greater stability, the visible surfaces of the dry masonry are tilted backwards by about 10°.
