Floor coverings with pile

In the case of floor coverings with pile carpets, also known as pile carpets, the pile (pile) forms the actual wear layer of the carpet, while the carrier layer remains invisible. This is why it is referred to as a three-dimensional structure. There are

  • loop pile carpets, in which the surface of the pole consists of small loops,
  • cut pile carpets, in which the pole loops are cut open during production, and
  • cut loop carpets with a combination of loops and cut pole, which alternate to decorate the floor. If they also have different heights, they are also referred to as reliefware.

Pile carpets are also divided into shaggy and low-pile carpets, with yarn threads of different lengths at the pile. Floor coverings with piles used to be woven or embroidered in the traditional way, but today they are mainly tufted. In this process, the pile yarn is worked into the carrier layer like a sewing machine by needles arranged in the width of the web.
