Concrete slabs as additional load (roof)

Concrete slabs on flat roofs serve on the one hand to protect against wind suction, i.e. protection against wind forces taking off. On the other hand, they are used as a covering for common areas (roof terraces) or for maintenance corridors to ensure accessibility to e.g. building services structures.

More about concrete slabs as a ballast

The following options for wind suction protection can be considered when planning flat roofs:

  • Mechanical fastening of the insulation / roof waterproofing membrane to the roof ceiling.
  • Gravel fill with a minimum layer thickness of 5cm (grain size 16/32mm).
  • Concrete slabs as slab covering on gravel or gravel bed.
  • Extensive or intensive green roof construction.
