Panic door locks according to DIN EN 1125 enable the door to be opened with little effort in less than 1 second by means of a horizontal operating rod that extends over the entire width of the door, even if people press against the door leaf in the direction of escape, even without prior knowledge of the door situation or the Lock actuation. They are therefore also suitable for doors in escape routes where panic situations are predictable. The pressure on the operating rod not only pulls back the lock latch, but also the bolt, so that even a door that is closed to the outside can be opened from the inside at any time. DIN EN 1125 distinguishes between the following types according to the respective control element:

  • Type A: Panic door lock with handlerod, which is pressed down against the door and opens the door in the process
  • Type B: Panic door lock with pressurerod, which is pressed in the direction of the door leaf and opens the door in the process

In addition, panic door locks are divided into three classes according to their area of application:

The individual components of a panic door lock according to DIN EN 1125 (operating rod, lock, strike plate, mounting accessories) may only be used as a jointly tested unit, regardless of whether the individual components come from the same manufacturer or from several different manufacturers. Doors with panic door locks in accordance with DIN EN 1125 must open in the direction of escape (outwards).
