Screed, reinforcement

In the case of screeds and heated screeds on an insulating layer, reinforcement can be provided in accordance with DIN 18560-2 to minimise cracks. However, it is not fundamentally necessary and cannot completely prevent cracks from forming. It is particularly useful for stone or ceramic coverings on cement screeds. The following types of reinforcement are available:

  • lattice reinforcement made of reinforcing steel mesh or reinforcing steel mesh, to reduce the spread of cracks that occur and to reduce the height offset of the crack edges
  • fibre
  • reinforcement with steel, glass or plastic fibres added to the screed compound to minimise the formation of shrinkage or early cracks

In the area of movement joints, the reinforcement must be interrupted. The planner decides on the purpose, type and design of the reinforcement, and the corresponding information must be included in the bill of quantities.
