An automatic door system for swing doors, also known as swing door drive or swing door drive, not only closes but also opens the door element motorically. If approved, it includes the function of a hold-open system and replaces the door closer required for fire doors (fire protection or smoke protection doors). The opening process is triggered by hand switches or motion detectors, the closing process is automatic (after a certain time), controlled by hand switches or smoke detectors. An automatic door system thus enables the fully automatic opening and closing of doors in public buildings, e.g. clinics, which otherwise have to be closed due to use or fire protection. It requires an electrical connection for its operation.
When using swing leaf drives on double-leaf doors, it must be ensured that the stationary leaf closes in front of the opening leaf by means of a so-called closing sequence control in order to prevent the door rebates from tilting and thus preventing the door element from closing completely. There are also rotary wing drives that have a hold-open function, i.e. include the function of a hold-open system. Automatic door systems require special safety precautions, e.g. against crushing, shearing or pulling in fingers, which are mainly regulated in DIN 18650 Part 2. The necessary protective devices, e.g. in the form of infrared sensor strips that monitor the opening area, are offered by the manufacturer as part of the respective approved system.
