Loxone is a proprietary building automation system from the Austrian company Loxone Electronics GmbH, which exclusively manufactures and distributes the components. It is designed for central sensor and actuator installation. The heart of a Loxone installation is the Loxone Miniserver, which takes over all control tasks and has several inputs and outputs. Further inputs or outputs are implemented via expansion modules. Data communication takes place via twisted pair, i.e. separately installed control cables with low voltage (SELV, safety extra-low voltage).
The programming of the miniserver is carried out exclusively by trained personnel using the specially developed and free software. Changes on the miniserver can also be made by ambitious laymen. Loxone is primarily designed for home use ("smart home").
