Properties
The thermal conductivity of these insulation boards (λ = 0.004 to 0.008 W/mK) is only about 1⁄10 of the value of conventional common insulation materials. Vacuum insulation is vapour-tight, the bulk density is 150–230 kg/m².

Vacuum insulation panels are available in various standard formats. A modular system helps to reduce the planning effort and avoid custom-made products. Pure, unprotected VIPs have proven themselves in construction operations for a decade and are easily controllable and replaceable until installation. Laminated VIPs are glued on both sides and are therefore more robust. For example, conventional insulation materials for exterior insulation (similar to ETICS), wood or hard plastic panels for interior construction or rubber layers (in addition to ETICS) are used. impact sound insulation) for flooring applications. VIPs for façades and roofs integrated into components are offered as wooden sandwich constructions or precast concrete elements. Vacuum
insulation boards are mainly used when very good insulation values are required with a small space requirement (e.g. floor insulation, roof insulation, threshold-free terraces, reveal insulation, façade insulation, flat roof insulation, roller shutter box insulation, barrier-free construction). Vacuum insulation can be used in new buildings as well as in renovations. It is important that the installation must only be carried out by trained personnel and must be damage-proof.
Ecology
Compared to other insulation materials, production is energy-intensive. However, the very good insulation effect contributes to low overall emissions when considering the entire life cycle.
