Properties
The hemp fibre is extremely (tear) resistant and moisture-resistant, it can store up to a third of its own weight in moisture and dry again without thermal losses. Natural bitter substances provide a natural resistance to rot, vermin, rodents and mould. In addition, it contains no protein and is therefore very resistant to degradation processes. The insulation value is very good (λ value = 0.041 – 0.045 W/mK), the water vapour diffusion resistance (μ) is 1 to 4.

Hemp is
available as an insulating board, insulating felt or as loose hemp fibres for blowing.
Hemp
insulation materials are available for almost all common areas of application. Façade insulation boards can be used as part of a thermal insulation composite system. Hemp insulation boards and insulation mats are used in timber frame walls, wooden beam ceilings, roofs and rear-ventilated facades. Stuffing material is used to fill cavities, hemp ropes for window and door joints, impact sound panels under floating screed, and hemp hurds loose as an insulating fill between upholstered timbers. Under certain conditions, hemp can be used up to building class GK 4.
