Wood fibre flakes are organic insulation materials made from vegetable fibres and are made from softwood waste. They get their insulating effect from the air pockets between the fibres. Boron salts are added to improve the fire behaviour. Wood fibre flakes are mechanically blown into the closed cavity between the rafters by licensed specialist companies. In this process, the flakes become matted and interlocked, which achieves a high level of settling safety. Wood fibre flakes have a moisture-regulating effect, are very permeable to diffusion and resistant to pest and mould infestation. Due to their high specific heat capacity and high bulk density, they achieve good thermal insulation in summer and have good sound insulation properties. The production is made from waste products, the insulation material is reusable, but not compostable due to the additives. Wood fiber flakes are relatively new to the market and are not yet widely used. Wood fibre flakes are available in bags of approx. 15 kg.
