It has only been known for a relatively short time that wood pellets can release carbon monoxide (CO) during storage, presumably through natural degradation processes, in addition to other gases. The highly toxic, colourless and odourless gas is practically imperceptible to humans and can be life-threatening if it is concentrated in the air we breathe. In addition to other important measures (e.g. warning sign on the pellet storage room, effective ventilation of the room), a CO gas detector can also help to detect an existing danger at an early stage. This is a small, compact device with an integrated measuring cell, power supply and acoustic alarm device, similar to a smoke detector.
