Reinforced concrete beam

In the case of buildings in skeleton construction, a distinction is made between finishing parts and load-bearing components.

The load-bearing components include ceilings, columns, floor slabs, foundations and beams.

More about reinforced concrete

beams Beams absorb ceiling loads and distribute them horizontally. They direct the loads to the vertical supports. Beams can be designed as a rectangular cross-section, coating or parapet, in in-situ concrete or as a prefabricated element.

Notes on planning

Reinforced concrete beams function statically as:

  • Single-span girders with articulated support (on consoles)
  • Continuous girders, statically determined with bracket-free support (on floor-to-ceiling columns)
  • Continuous system, statically indeterminate, with cast-in-place concrete grouting above the columns (in the area of the columns)

Installation openings etc. are critical in beams, as they are often stressed by relatively large shear forces.
