Heat pumps can actively contribute to the cooling of buildings by reversing their process direction compared to heating mode and releasing the excess heat from the building to the environment via the collector (e.g. geothermal collector). In the case of a brine heat pump, this even leads to the storage of certain heat potentials in the ground, which can be called up again during the heating season. Active cooling requires electric drive power for the compressor in the heat pump, in contrast to passive cooling.
