Dimpled track

Dimpled membranes are used in the area of the basement or perimeter insulation. They prevent damage to the layer behind them when the excavation pit is filled with soil or other filling material.

Depending on the circumstances, the membranes with the studs are laid in the direction of the structure or in the direction of the ground. To protect against silting, a fleece made of geotextile should also be attached to the outside.

Components

in contact with the ground, such as basement walls and similar components that penetrate the ground, must be sealed (cf. DIN 18533). Depending on the type of waterproofing used, different dimpled membranes are suitable.

The following must be taken into account:

  • the type of waterproofing (liquid waterproofing, waterproofing membranes, waterproof concrete)
  • whether perimeter insulation is installed on the waterproofing
  • whether a drainage layer is to be provided

Simple dimpled membranes can be used on pressure-resistant substrates such as waterproof concrete if no surface drainage is required or if a permeable mineral fill is to be built up in front of the dimpled membrane. They only serve as filling protection and separation layer and have no other functional layers. These simple studded membranes are installed with the studded side facing the building. In this way, they protect the component from the filled material.

Simple studded membranes can also be laid on pressure-resistant insulation. Here, the studded side is also aligned in the direction of the building.

On perimeter insulation, it is possible to lay standard studded membranes with the studded side towards the ground. The buffer zone for the protective effect is thus lost, but the membrane continues to protect against sharp-edged stones drilling into the insulation. Displacement of the insulation boards is also prevented.

If

a studded membrane is laid with the studded side towards the ground on the perimeter insulation, but the perimeter insulation is covered with surface drainage in accordance with DIN 4095, at least one studded membrane with laminated geotextile must be used.

Before a studded membrane is attached, the ring drainage, including gravel sheathing and filter fleece, must be installed.

depending on the local conditions, a studded membrane is laid horizontally (wrapped around the building) or vertically (like wallpaper).

If the membrane is laid vertically, it must be fixed above the waterproofing.

Laid dimpled membranes must not be exposed to UV radiation for more than two weeks. It should therefore be backfilled in a timely manner.

Only after backfilling is the dimpled membrane cut at the upper end and the upper edge covered.
