LON

LON stands for Local Operating Network. The LON building automation system was developed by Echelon Corporation (USA). LON works with a standardized fieldbus, which is mainly used in building automation. Many manufacturers worldwide produce components for this fieldbus, although the individual components do not have to be certified. Data communication runs via an additional bus line (twisted pair) as standard. Alternatively, it can also be done via the 230V cables of conventional electrical wiring (Powerline). But communication channels via radio, infrared and optical fibers are also possible.

The individual components, such as sensors and actuators, are not only parameterized, but also programmed. This makes LON a very sophisticated, but also a very powerful and flexible system. Specialist planners are usually required for the planning and programming of a LON system. The software for programming the system is not standardized, different programs are available for license fees depending on the number of bus components.
