The maintenance effort for artificial turf is significantly lower than for natural turf, as there is no mowing or fertilising work. Permanent lining is available, but depending on the intensity of use, it must be redrawn using suitable materials. The synthetic turf must be checked regularly for changes in the fibres and excessive wear, as well as for changes in the infill granules. Heavily contaminated areas can be easily restored without growth times. In the case of coverings with a filled pile layer, the surface must be levelled and the fillers supplemented. Regular collection of leaves is also part of the care. Nevertheless, artificial turf is not protected from accumulating dirt over time and forming a habitat for algae and mosses. With the help of special vehicles, the granules are rinsed out and cleaned.
Even if regular watering of the artificial turf is not necessary, it improves playability, especially in midsummer. Otherwise, the dry surface will develop an overheated microclimate in weather conditions with little exchange.
