Clinker paving is a type of paving whose covering consists of paving bricks produced in the factory. These are paving bricks whose water absorption capacity is limited due to sintering and which are therefore frost-resistant. The degree of sintering influences this property and makes the pavers usable for outdoor use. Pavers are manufactured for trafficked areas in thicknesses ≥ 6 cm, with lower loads in non-trafficked areas also in lower thicknesses. The installation can be carried out both upright and flat. In addition to square and rectangular formats, polygonal composite formats of various shapes are also available on the market. Numerous supplementary bricks for connection to boundary surfaces, e.g. so-called bishop's caps, are available depending on the laying pattern used.

A distinction is made between clinker paving stones and clinker slabs, where the ratio of the greatest length to the thickness of the slab is at least 4. Clinker tiles are not permitted for trafficked areas.
Application:
Appearance: red and brown tones, violet to bluish, diverse colour nuances
Properties: Resistant to chemical and mechanical stress, frost-resistant, high dimensional accuracy.
Regulations: The European regulations DIN EN 1344 deal with paving bricks, the German standard DIN 18503 with pavers. The paver is a paving brick that meets increased requirements for water absorption and cullet density. The German regulations of DIN 18503 (paving bricks) include the regulations of DIN EN 1344 (paving bricks), supplemented by the criteria that determine the quality of the clinker bricks: water absorption and cullet density.
