Work, think & do
The idea of reducing a design to its purest, most rational form has never really appealed. Material defects, happy accidents in the design process, or traces of the manufacturer can become the true beauty of the project. Our work seeks a balance between modernist ideals of pure space and light and a more poetic form of architecture that has a sense of texture, historical structure and place.

We often negotiate and embrace complex relationships between new and old techniques to arrive at buildings that are generous in detail and dimensionally stable.

We spend time carefully interweaving poetic and pragmatic considerations to create designs with narrative, integrity, and commercial clarity.

As a studio, we have taken over digital production and contract manufacturing to make the design process more experimental and expressive. We deliver projects in collaboration with a growing network of artisans, suppliers, fabricators and manufacturers who share our curiosity and sense of experimentation.

A large building must start with the immeasurable, must go through measurable means during planning and must be immeasurable in the end. Louis Kahn
