The architects Sebastian Lelle and Christian Wolf.

Sebastian and Christian both studied architecture at the RPTU Kaiserslautern (formerly TU Kaiserslautern) and subsequently worked for several years as research assistants in the field of building construction and in practice as project managers and construction managers in various architectural offices.

Our idea for the baukobox was born when we both were active in the office as architects and taught as research assistants in the building construction department at the RPTU and the HS Kaiserslautern. Through our technical-constructive seminar "Facade 4.0" we were able to generate first facade analyzes of demanding #best practice projects and visually prepare them as a basis for our construction database.

Digital Transformation – Instead of the traditional print publication of the results of the analyses, the decision was made to develop a contemporary digital construction database. The goal was to design the drawing data according to the principle"BIM for details" interactively selectable so that the individual components could be structured according to cost groups of DIN 276 and annotated with further relevant information such as products and knowledge texts.

The baukobox – an artificial word from building construction and construction box – was intended as a digital tool to support architects, planners and students in their research and enable a holistic view of constructive details.

With the DFKI - especially our co-founding computer scientist Dr. Martin Memmel - and the renowned IT agency SYNDIKAT7, we won competent partners who worked with us to develop the idea, conception and development of a cloud-based web platform, which was finally implemented successfully, so that the baukobox could go online in autumn 2020.

Awarded as the best scientific spin-off by the "SIAK - Science and Innovation Alliance Kaiserslautern", already over 25,000 Users use the baukobox in their professional and academic everyday life as a research source for constructive details.

By documenting circularly effective finishes, proof of material origin, proof of Dismantability of a construction as a basis for ReUse & ReCycle we expand the holistic view of the projects. Building in stock, conversion,Refurbishment measures, - strategies and recommendations for action are becoming more focused and are expanding our database.
